Help: Need to stop being user "walmart".
Vista came with my new laptop - a demo model whose only user was named "walmart". I need to stop being known as "walmart" when I try and access shared files over my in-home network. How do I do that?I changed the account name and all the walmart file and folder names to my own. I set up sharing permission of a few folders to my name only. Yet after I reboot, when I try to access those from my desktop, I have to log in with the user name "walmart".Of course that may not be bad from a security sense. After all, who would think of it?Lou in Ottawa, Canada, TimeZone: Eastern GMT-5

Hi,Try creating a new user account and add this to the local administrators group. Log in with this account and if "walmart" is not the default administrator account (the default administrator account may have been renamed to "walmart"), you can delete this account and remove all files/folders under this profile. Once done, you can use this newly created account for future log ins and when accessing your other resources in your home network.Regards,Salvador Manaois IIIMCITP | Enterprise & Server AdminMCSE MCSA MCTS CIWA C|EHBytes & Badz: http://badzmanaois.blogspot.com

So that means under Vista there is no default "Administrator" account. I can create any only one account in my own name and make that account the sole member of the Administrator group. Is that correct? Lou in Ottawa, Canada, TimeZone: Eastern GMT-5

Hi Lou,There is a default, built-in administrator account. However, by default, this built-in administrator account is disabled in Windows Vista. The account "walmart" may be an account created after the Vista installation; before you delete this, ensure that you have created an account and granted this system-level privileges.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926183http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsvistasecurity/archive/2006/08/27/windowsvistasecurity_.aspxRegards,Salvador Manaois IIIMCITP | Enterprise & Server AdminMCSE MCSA MCTS CIWA C|EHBytes & Badz: http://badzmanaois.blogspot.com

Now all the settings under that account are gone. Because the walmart account was renamed to (just the account, not the folder) to LouA, there is a LouA folder under C:\Users with my original desktop, but that isn't used for some reason. Instaed Vista creates a TEMP folder under C:\Users and uses that for my desktop, despite still calling the desktop LouA.So now, what do I do?Lou in Ottawa, Canada, TimeZone: Eastern GMT-5

Hi Lou,Have you created another user account and added it to the local administrators group of the computer? Are you able to login using this newly created account? Regards,Salvador
